Bioluminescence occurs when the tiny organisms in the water create their own light. They glow, making the water look sparkly, milky, or a deep cerulean blue, depending on the organisms and location.

There are countless bioluminescent beaches to pick from, so here’s the shimmery hotspot that’s a bucket list vacay for your zodiac sign.

Aries: Zeebrugge, Belgium

Forever in motion, your ultra active sign will thrive watching the “milky seas effect” in this tiny village along the North Sea. The bioluminescent algae here tend to light up when you create a disturbance like swimming or diving, so jump on in to watch the sea sparkle.

Taurus: Skellig Coast, Ireland

Ireland’s southernmost coast is known for its ethereal glow at night, and rolling green hills during the day. Earthy Taurus will love exploring Kerry and Cork’s natural beauty, no matter which time of day they head out.

Gemini: Mudhdhoo Island, Maldives

Vaadhoo Island in Raa Atoll, also known as Mudhdhoo Island, is the best place in the Maldives to see the bioluminescence. It is one of the smaller islands, home to just 500 people, and can be reached by speedboat from the capital of Male in about 15 minutes. The best time to see this activity is between June and October.

Cancer: Matsu Island, Taiwan

If you come to the island during the summer months (or during Cancer season), you can see the edges of the water all lit up like “blue tears,” as the locals call it. As the sentimental sweetheart of the zodiac, you can relate.

Leo: Falmouth, Jamaica

The Luminous Lagoon in Jamaica boasts a super bright cluster of bioluminescence — one of the brightest in the world, in fact. Spotlight-loving Leos know what it’s like to be the brightest, and they’ll gravitate towards this lagoon.

Virgo: Kumbalangi, India

At one of India’s first eco-friendly villages, green and efficient Virgos are sure to enjoy the views without worrying about their carbon footprint. Plus, you can dive deep into traditional island life and learn about the culture, one of Virgo’s fave pastimes.

Scorpio: Roatan, Honduras

To witness the vibrant bioluminescent animals surrounding this tiny island, you’ll need to dive deep — just how intense Scorpio likes it. You can only see the famous “String of Pearls” lights when you’re still, and if any sign knows how to be patient, it’s Scorpio.

Sagittarius: Lagunas de Chacahua, Mexico

These gorgeous lagoons are off the beaten path, and there’s no one up for an adventure more than Sagittarius. Trek through the forests and small villages of Lagunas de Chacahua to see the glowing waves.
