This feels like one of those nights we won’t be sleeping.

The Party

For my 31st birthday (13 backward), I threw a Taylor Swift-themed party on the 13th of September, on Cornelia Street, with Taylor Swift costumes and and the ultimate Swiftie dance party — especially when I learned that DJ Rog, the TikTok famous Swiftie DJ, was coming to New York for the first time.

Ahead of Midnights’ release on Oct. 21, here’s some inspo on how to throw your own Taylor Swift party.

The Invitations

I sent Lover-themed snail mail invitations telling everyone to come dressed as their favorite Taylor Swift era, in dress or in spirit. For the Midnights release, you could make navy invitations with star-shaped cards, or even better, hand-deliver them at midnight, just like every important Taylor Swift announcement.

Deciding On A ‘Fit

Taylor has so many iconic outfits that are easy to recreate, including every outfit from the 1989 tour. Start by picking your favorite album or outfit, and then look for similar items to create your own take. Or go all in on Midnights and have everyone dress in a ‘70s celestial theme.

Building Your ‘Fit

I picked an outfit from Taylor's GMA performance during Lover release week, thrifted a shirt and skirt on eBay, and used some black boots. My friends and I didn’t tell each other “which” Taylor we were dressing up as, adding to the anticipation.

The Venue

Before seeing DJ Rog in Greenwich Village, we headed to Cornelia Street for dinner. Cornelia Street provided the perfect venue for a full photoshoot before heading to the concert — and we were not the only Swifties with this idea. If the actual Cornelia Street isn’t possible, create your own Cornelia Street or Midnights-themed backdrop for photo spots.

The Gift Bags

Sure, it feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters, but maybe all of your guests aren’t quite prepared. I ordered pink heart-shaped sunglasses and Taylor-themed stickers to give everyone little gift bags and a simple outfit accessory.

The Activities

To make this a night where you won’t be sleeping, you’ll need some activities to get you to midnight. I created a “T.S. Faves” questionnaire to find out everyone’s favorite songs, specific Taylor’s Version faves, the re-recorded songs they are looking forward to, and to hear theories about Midnights.

The Music

There’s no shortage of sick beats for a Taylor Swift-themed party. To take it to the next level, find out if a Taylor Swift dance party is happening near you or host your own. While we wait with baited breath for a tour announcement, this four-hour Taylor Swift dance party by DJ Rog was so fun.

The Swifties

Most importantly, no Taylor Swift-themed party is complete without the Swifties. As we enter the Midnights era, it feels like one of those nights we won’t be sleeping, so give a toast to your real friends and dance and sing your hearts out!
