John Mayer Played So Many Classic Hits At His Pre-Super Bowl Concert

Sponsored Pandora and Sirius XM, the concert was part of their Small Stage Series.

It was a star-studded night. Celebrities in attendance included Heidi Klum and Olivia Culpo. Some watched from the upstairs VIP balcony.

Vanessa Hudgens enjoyed the concert with her boyfriend Cole Tucker, an MLB player for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Paris Jackson was also spotted and gave the peace sign to a photographer.

Andy Cohen, a long-time friend of Mayer’s, hosted the concert. Earlier this month, Mayer supported Cohen as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They both share a love for the Grateful Dead, and Mayer performs with the band under the moniker Dead & Company.

Mayer played all of his best hits, including classics like “Gravity,” “Who Says,” and “Waiting On the World to Change.”

Mayer also performed songs from his album of last year, Sob Rock. Songs like “New Light,” “Last Train Home,” and “Shot in the Dark” sounded delightful, especially considering they’re newer tracks in his musical repertoire.

Mayer made a point to recognize his band throughout the night, including guitarist Isaiah Sharkey. In addition to offering individual introductions, Mayer allowed for keytar and guitar solos.

Halfway through the evening, Mayer stopped the show to check on a distressed fan in the crowd. He later told the audience the concert-goer, who Mayer initially thought might be unconscious, was OK. Still, Mayer didn’t take chances and stepped off-stage while the fan was treated.

With a mix of old and new hits during the nearly two-hour set, Mayer put on a night to be remembered. While he’s used to playing packed arenas, his one-night stint at the Palladium was a rare opportunity to see him jam in a smaller setting.

After an epic show, Mayer is keeping his momentum going. The Grammy-winning singer is now gearing up for his Sob Rock tour. He’ll be hitting cities across the nation in support of the new album. The tour kicks off on Feb. 17 in Albany, New York.
