17 Reasons Why Couples Who Eat Together, Stay Together

Eating is the kind of experience that tells you a lot about people (aside from just their preference in food). Certain people can't even bring themselves to eat in front of others, so even feeling comfortable enough to do so is a step in and of itself.

If you think about it, you eat every day, so you better be able to eat every day with the person you're dating. Sounds simple enough, but eating plays a huge role in your life and your relationship.

Do you know how hard it can be just deciding on a restaurant? Yeah, exactly -- we all know that struggle.

So why is it that couples who eat together stick together?

1. There is no food-shaming

If your significant other tells you that you are eating too much, kick that food-shamer to the curb! You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. You need someone who will indulge in fat kid Sunday with you.

2. When you're eating together, you're actually conversing

You aren't watching TV, your head isn't buried in your phone -- instead you are 100 percent focused on your partner and your meal. While other people rush through meals, you and your SO drag them out for as long as possible.

3. You're both experts when it comes to sharing

The best part about having a meal with someone is that you can share a bunch of different options. You aren't limited to just one dish -- instead you get to try a bunch of things! And, as we all know, the more the merrier.

4. You learn even more about your SO's habits

What a person chooses to eat says a lot about. Vegetarian? You have strong morals and can commit to something for an entire lifetime. And aren't those great qualities to have when in a relationship?

5. If you can agree on a restaurant, you can agree on anything

I would say a hefty chunk of arguments that occur in relationships are because one or both of you can't make a decision on what you want to eat. I mean there are dozens of options out there! It's not as simple as we'd like it to be...

6. You both know you're just fueling up for sex

This is the perfect way to rationalize all of the food you both are about to consume. It even gives you an excuse to eat more afterwards.

7. Sharing a good experience always makes you closer

And, let's be honest for a moment, shall we? Food is always a great experience.

8. You aren't afraid to get messy together

Some people are afraid to indulge in greasy and sloppy food, but you and your SO think it's a hilarious experience and one you both want to have over and over again.

9. You're always on the same schedule

Eat, sex, sleep, repeat -- they're basically the unwritten rules of your relationship. When one of you is hungry, it's basically guaranteed the other is as well, or you're both just down to eat whenever and wherever.

10. You play equal roles when it comes to mealtime

Neither of you is serving the other, instead one is responsible for cooking while the other is responsible for cleaning.

11. It makes you comfortable with each other

Food is something people tend to be self-conscious about, so you know you have reached peak levels of comfort when you don't care what you look like while stuffing your face.

12. How you treat waitstaff is a true reflection of how you treat people

If you're dating someone who has no respect for waiters, that's someone you shouldn't be dating.

13. You don't order each other around

Instead of ordering each other's food, you both are free to make your own decisions.

14. It's an excuse to drink together

Couples who drink together may be the most fun type of couple out there. Instead of taking advantage of the fact that they have every excuse to stay in, these couples break the traditional mold and go out at any and all opportunities.

15. You're both pregnant with food babies at the same time

The only good part about having a food baby is the fact that your boyfriend or girlfriend is right there with you. There really is no bond quite like the one that is built comparing how far out you can push your stomach.

16. You indulge together and then get healthy together

You may overindulge from time to time, but there's no shame in your game. In fact, your partner is right there alongside you, inhaling slice after slice of Domino's. The best part of it is you hit your limit at the same time, forcing the both of you to pick up right where you left off at the gym.

17. You have something you share, and it will always be yours

You know that one place where you had the most amazing meal of your lives together? That will always be your special place. Hopefully, you don't break up or you'll never want to feast there again... Just kidding (kind of).
