I’m So Shook By iHeartRadio Music Awards’ Biggest Beauty Trend

Move over, smokey eye.

The 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards red carpet was *packed* with celebs wearing the graphic eyeliner trend. Olivia Rodrigo, one of the night’s big winners, opted for an amplified cat eye that played with negative space and arched just above her lid crease.

Halsey played the graphic liner trend game a little differently. The shades of blue blended out — aqua on the lash line, lavender on the inner eye, and indigo on the edges — for a truly spectacular look.

Halsey’s graphic approach not only played with complementary cool tones, but also built contrast through texture. The pop of lavender on her inner eye had a subtle shimmer while the aqua and indigo on their lids were a true matte.

On the punk side of the red carpet, Willow Smith’s take on the graphic eyeliner trend was all edge. The musician’s lower lash line featured a few well-placed spikes to accentuate her lower lashes, giving major ‘90s grunge, and I adore it.

One way to really capture the magic of a graphic liner moment is to tone down the other elements of the glam. Thanks to the rest of Smith’s subtle glam, fans don’t miss any of the impact of her lash line spikes.

Like Rodrigo’s, Dove Cameron’s graphic liner look played with negative space. Rather than breaking up the liner above the lid, Cameron opted to create depth and space on the lower lash line.

The bright spot on Cameron’s lower lash line was subtle, but impactful. As is the way with this trend, the rest of Cameron’s glam — a wash of pink and some fluffy lashes — was mostly muted and allowed the liner to be the star of the show.

You don’t have to choose between bright color and black liner. Case in point: Aston’s hot pink and black graphic glam. The singer can be seen wearing this boomerang of bright color on her inner eye often on TikTok and I, for one, am thrilled to see she brought it to a red carpet.

Aston’s sweep of pink extended from her inner eye, up past her crease, and blended out just below her brows. This approach is everything the graphic liner trend should be: a bold twist on classic eye makeup.

Billy Porter always brings it to the red carpet and his graphic eyeliner at the iHeartRadio Music Awards was no exception. In fact, he pulled off one of the most difficult graphic liner looks: the crease cut cat eye.

His cut crease cat eye look extended the liner on the upper lash line out and then pulled it back into the crease of the eyelid. It’s difficult to do and it is *a lot* of look. Porter, of course, rocked it.
