The first time I saw apple cider vinegar, I'll admit, I was not a fan.

What even is apple cider vinegar (ACV), and who the hell would drink vinegar? And what's all that stuff at the bottom? Why are people so excited about this? Just because it says apple cider vinegar? It's still vinegar, people.

Clearly, I wasn't #woke, but in my defense, this was years ago.

Now, however, I'm slowly learning about the magical wonders of this strange liquid and welcoming it into my life.

If you're anything like me, then I'm sure you've heard of ACV. It's one of those products you may have seen in your home but didn't even realize just how much of a gem it really is.

Here are five awesome benefits you can reap by incorporating apple cider vinegar into your lifestyle.

1. It Lowers Blood Sugar Levels

A study published in the Journal of Functional Foods described the effects of apple cider vinegar on individuals who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

Over the course of 12 weeks, participants in the study who consumed ACV twice daily had lower blood sugar levels than those who didn't consume the liquid.

Yaaas, ACV, yaass.

2. It Cuts Cravings

Because ACV helps to control blood glucose levels (and in turn works to improve insulin sensitivity), it can also curb sugar cravings.

With a balanced blood sugar level, you're much less likely to experience intense, hard-to-resist sugar cravings throughout the day.

3. It Whitens Teeth

The acid in apple cider vinegar can help remove plaque buildup on your teeth, and it can clear up any pesky stains caused by beverages like red wine or coffee.

Plus, it kills off some of the bad bacteria chilling in your mouth. Drink up, guys!

4. It Clears Up Your Skin

Not only can the acid in ACV do wonders for your pearly whites, but it also helps to tighten pores.

Because the liquid's pH level is similar to that of the protective acid mantle layer of your actual skin, ACV can help to restore balance and steer clear of any breakouts.

Not to mention, the natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties found in ACV also serve to clear up acne, too.

Ugh, I literally can't with all this goodness.

5. It Cleans Your House

Say goodbye to all those harmful chemicals found in most household products, because apple cider vinegar has you covered.

The anti-bacterial properties and balanced pH level work together to make ACV a powerful cleaning agent.

From brightening your smile to keeping your house tidy and clean, there's no reason not to give ACV a try (I believe in you; you can see past the *ick* factor of the vinegar).

Clearly, with apple cider vinegar, anything is possible.
