The 7 Frightening Personal Encounters I've Had That Prove Ghosts Exist

Ghosts are real. I've seen, heard and felt enough to know they do exist. At first, when I was younger, I thought they were just a bunch of stories until I was haunted myself.

These are the reasons why I strongly believe in the ghostly world:

1. A little boy haunted me

I was about 5 or 6 when my family and I moved into an old, creepy house.

Every night around midnight, I would scream, causing my mom to run up the stairs to my bedside.

Why? Because every night around midnight, a little boy about 8 years old, dressed in colonial-style clothing, would come through the wall with a ball and ask me to come with him.

I tried not to think about it most nights, but like clockwork, he was back every night when the clock struck 12.

We eventually had to move out.

2. Hide-and-seek

One day, my brother, best friend and I decided to play hide-and-seek at my grandmother's house.

It was the middle of the day on a summer afternoon, and my friend and I were hiding behind a small couch in my grandmother's room.

My little brother ran through the house searching under tables, in closets and in the showers.

Finally, he runs into my grandmother's room and says, “I see your face in the closet. You lose.”

My friend and I automatically jumped out from behind the couch and booked it downstairs and outside.

3. Night terrors

I suppose a lot of children go through stages of night terrors, but I felt like mine were a lot different than most.

When my family and I lived in Texas, my mom and dad would wake up with me standing at the foot of their bed staring at them.

Only, I had no recollection of doing this. Some nights, I would scream like someone was murdering me.

Some nights, I would stand on the bed, screaming and crying and point at nothing.

I don't know about you, but that sounds like something evil was lurking around.

4. The drummer ghost

In high school, my friend and I thought it would be a good idea to make a Ouija bored and play with it in her haunted basement.

After we asked it questions and tried to connect with the dead, we went upstairs to go to sleep.

Needless to say, it didn't work.

As we were falling asleep, we start to hear her brother's drum set going off downstairs. Now note, we were the only ones in the house that night.

We didn't sleep at all.

5. Ghost hunt

In college, my university had a ghost hunting team come to the school and investigate the campus.

I of course volunteered to be there.

A group of us went to different buildings and tried different techniques.

We sat in a circle and put a regular, dollar store flashlight in the middle of us.

As we asked the spirits questions, the flashlight would actually react accordingly.

Now, that was creepy, but this is the worst part.

I finally was able to hold one of the meters.

After we left the theater, which made me super emotional for no reason, the meter kept going off the charts.

It didn't even budge the rest of the time, but of course when I hold it, it went crazy.

We finally made it to the last building, and I gave the meter to the investigator.

The ghost in that building killed himself because his wife cheated on him. (He was a janitor at the school years ago.)

The investigator asked him why his energy was so angry and asked if there was someone in here who cheated on their boyfriend or girlfriend.

He walked around with the meter, and it remained green until it got to me.

Now, I'm not proud of it. I was 14 years old and wasn't mature enough to know what a relationship was or how it worked.

Needless to say, the meter went off the charts when he stood next to me.

I left the building.

6. The little man and the little girl

My cousin's grandmother's house is haunted.

Everyone who lives there is aware of it, and everyone has seen the little man and the little girl.

One night at a Super Bowl party, I looked to my right and saw a short, old man with a hat peering around the corner.

I'm pretty sure my face went as pale as it has ever been (and I'm Irish).

I finally saw the little man.

A few weeks later, I was going out the door into the garage, and I saw a little girl behind me.

I figured it was my cousin's little sister, who is about the same size, so I didn't react right away.

Then, I finally realized her little sister is in school and I was the only one home other than her grandmother and grandfather.

I turned around again and she was gone.

I finally saw the little girl.

7. The gray cat

Where I live now, it is slightly haunted.

I've talked to the people who have lived here before me, and they've seen their fair share of ghosts.

I fortunately haven't seen a human ghost yet, but I have seen a little, gray cat.

This little, gray ghost cat, which I named Orb, walks up and down our hallway, swaying its tail, and does its own thing.

However, I think the dog sees it sometimes.
