As a foodie who has Googled how to pronounce “poké” and “açaí” multiple times, I thought it was time someone compiled a list of all those tricky foods that taste better than they sound.

Make sure you don't embarrass yourself in front of your waiter or your bougie friends by following this guide.

1. Pâté

The food pâté does not rhyme with “great,” although it looks that way.

Instead, it is pronounced "pa-tay," rhyming with “yay."
