'It' Deleted Scene Was So Scary Bill Skarsgård Said It Had To Be Cut

I can't even imagine how they could have possibly made the recent It adaptation scarier, but apparently the new horror flick cut out the most disturbing scene of all! Pennywise himself, played by actor Bill Skarsgård, revealed that one flashback scene showing the origin of the clown monster was so horrifying that they decided to cut it from the movie. Skarsgard detailed the It deleted scene to Variety, and said that fans of the movie might actually get a chance to see the terrifying cut scene soon enough.

Although we learned a little bit about It's past in Derry, Maine, while the kids research the monster, much of the terrifying child-eater's past is still a mystery. Apparently, the movie initially included an illuminating scene showing It back in the 17th century, before he fully became It. Skarsgård said the scene showed It with pale, translucent skin, looking like a "half-formed" human, as a mother allows him to eat her daughter in exchange for her own safety.

Obviously, the creepy clown make-up is scary enough, but apparently this flashback version of It as a more human-looking monster was even more terrifying and wound up on the cutting room floor. But, it might not stay there. Skarsgård went on to tease that the flashback scene may still end up making it to the big screen in the It sequel that they're currently working on.

Although Bill Skarsgård didn't totally confirm the flashback scene will be used in the upcoming sequel, it sounds pretty likely. A few months ago, director Andy Muschietti told Collider there were a couple scenes he had to cut from the movie that he still wants to include in the sequel, including "a flashback, that sort of portrays the first encounter of It and humans." Sounds like he's talking about the same scene as Skarsgård, huh?

But as for when we can actually expect to see the disturbing scene for ourselves in the sequel, we might have to wait a while. It's still so early that the sequel hasn't even officially been announced yet, but it's clearly a done deal given how well It did critically and at the box office, and the movie ominously ending with the giant words "Chapter One" scrawled on the screen before the credits roll. The cast and crew have talked about how It: Chapter Two will be set 27 years after the events of the first movie, which is the amount of time It hibernates between reemerging to wreak havoc on Derry. The next movie will see the kids from the first film as adults, fulfilling their promise to reunite in Derry to take on It once again.

And from the sounds of this deleted scene, it will also focus on the lore and history of Stephen King's iconic horror story, providing fans with a lot more insight into what It actually is, and how it wound up terrorizing the town of Derry for centuries. There's no release date for the sequel yet, but it's likely production will take place at the start or midway through 2018, and premiere either at the end of 2018 or in 2019.
